【妖怪説明】
海坊主は日本全土に伝説が残っているが、宮城県牡鹿群女川町には目撃談が残っている。

1971年4月に起こったこととして7月17日号の毎日新聞に載っている。
宮城県牡鹿郡女川町のマグロはえ縄漁船・第28金比羅丸がニュージーランド方面でマグロ漁をしていた。昼頃に仕掛けておいたはえ縄を巻き上げていたのだが突然、縄が切れてしまった。はえ縄についているブイを引き上げようと近づくと大木の根のようなものがあるのに気づいた。すると突然、根のようなものは振り向き、船員たちは化け物といって大騒ぎになった。それは灰褐色で皺の多い体を持ち、目は直径15センチメートルほど、鼻はつぶれ、口は見えず、水面から1.5mほど顔をだしていたという。半身が濁った海水の中に没していたために全身は確認できなかったが、尾をひいているようにも見えたという。モリで突く準備をしていたところ、その化物は海中へと消えてしまったという。船長を含め26人全員が目撃しており、クジラや巨大な魚と見間違えることはないと思われる。直接海坊主とはいっていないが、海坊主の話であろう。

UMIBOUZU is a famous Japanese sea monster.

It is also published in the July 1971 newspaper.
Tuna longline fishing boat, No. 28 Kinpiramaru, Ogawa-gun, Oshika-gun, Miyagi Prefecture, was fishing for tuna in New Zealand. They were winding up the longline they had set up around noon, but suddenly the rope broke. As I approached to pull up the buoy attached to the longline, there was something like the root of a big tree. Suddenly, things like the roots turned around, and the crew turned out to be a monster. It had a grayish brown, wrinkled body with a diameter of about 15 centimeters, a crushed nose, no mouth, and a face about 1.5 meters from the surface of the water. The whole body could not be confirmed because the half was submerged in turbid seawater, but it also appeared to have a tail. While preparing to poke with Mori, it is said that the substance has disappeared into the sea. All 26 people, including the captain, have witnessed it and it seems that they can not be mistaken for whales and giant fish.
