【妖怪説明】
さざえおに。鳥山石燕「画図百鬼徒然袋」に描かれている。
雀が海に入るとはまぐりになり、モグラは化けてうずらになるので、さざえも鬼になるという。
また、紀州（現・和歌山、三重県南部）にこんな話がある。
あるとき海賊のあつまる波切で、海賊が溺れた女を助けてきた。とても美しい女で海賊達はみんなゾッコンになり、女もまた手当り次第に寝て、ことごとく睾丸をぬきとった。それを見かねて海に投げ込んで殺そうとしたが、これがさざえと化しやがて栄螺鬼になった。このあと海賊の親分は莫大な財宝と引き換えに栄螺鬼から睾丸を返してもらったという。
まさに金で金を買ったわけですね。

【SAZAE-ONI -Turban shell demon-】
In Japan, it is said that when a sparrow enters the sea, it becomes a clam, a mole becomes a quail, and a turban shell becomes a demon.
At one point, a pirate helped a drowning woman. She was a very beautiful woman and all the pirates liked it. The woman slept with the pirates at random and drove off the testicles. The pirates were angry and threw the woman into the sea to kill her. However, the woman was transformed into SAZAE-ONI. It is said that the pirate boss had the testicle returned from SAZAE-ONI in exchange for a huge treasure.
