【妖怪説明】
たまものまえ。平安時代末期に鳥羽上皇の寵愛を受けた。正体は九尾の狐であり金毛九尾の狐とも言う。
インドでは斑足太子の妃華陽夫人、中国では紂王の妃妲己、周では幽王の寵姫褒姒となり王の心を奪って国を滅ぼしてきた。日本では鳥羽上皇(近衛天皇とも)に玉藻前となって近づくが、安倍泰成に正体を見抜かれ那須原に逃げたところを退治される。しかし怨念は残り殺生石と化して毒気を吐き続けたが、後に会津の玄翁心昭という僧が石を打ちくだき成仏させた。
創作物で話が多く残っており、中国でも悪い狐とされているがもとは天下泰平のときに瑞祥をあらわす神獣だという。
「王よ愛せよ我が身はひとつ 軀と臣は捨てておけ」

Emperor Toba loved her at the end of the Heian period. The true identity was a youkai named Nine-tailed Fox.
The nine-tailed fox has captured the king's heart and destroyed the country in India, China, and Zhou. In Japan, she approached Emperor Toba (also known as Emperor Konoe) under the name of Tamamo-no-Mae. However, onmyoji (shaman) Yasunari Abe finds out who she is and gets rid of her. After that, it turned into a sesshoseki(large stone) with a grudge and continued to spit poison. Aizu monk smashed this stone into a Buddhahood.
There are many stories about this youkai in Japan. Although it is said to be a bad fox in China, it is said to be a sacred beast that shows auspicious signs during peace.
