【妖怪説明】
山形県飽海郡が舞台の怪談。

庄内三十三観音霊場を巡礼する娘が中平田で農家に宿を求めた。家の主人は娘の美貌と金に目が眩み、散々に犯した末に鉈で惨殺した。娘は恨みを口にして亡くなり、死体は裏庭の竹藪に埋められた。
その後、この家の部屋に奇妙な赤い筍が生えてきて天井まで伸びて枝葉を広げるさまは血に染まって死んだ女を彷彿とさせた。
やがて家の主人は病で体の肉が崩れ、たけのこの恐怖に慄きながら死んでいったという。

「枝葉茂らす女の怨嗟 竹藪眼窩に筍が生え」

【Red bamboo shoots】
A ghost story set in Akumi District, Yamagata Prefecture.
The woman was making a pilgrimage to Shonai Sanjusan Kannon Sacred Site. She had a farmer stay in Nakahirata. The master of the house was dazzled by her daughter's beauty and money, and after raping her severely, he slaughtered her with a machete. Her daughter uttered her grudge and died. Her body was buried in a bamboo grove in the backyard.
After that, strange red bamboo shoots grew in the rooms of this house. The bamboo shoots stretched up to the ceiling and spread their branches and leaves like a dead woman soaked in blood.
Before long, the master of the house fell ill and his body crumbled. He died trembling with fear of bamboo shoots.
